The Brothers of Sollie B. Norwood Lodge #699 proudly present the Academic Excellence Scholarship Program, designed to support outstanding students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and financial need.

Our mission is rooted in brotherly love, relief, and truth while helping develop the next generation of leaders through education and service. This scholarship reflects our ongoing commitment to uplifting youth and strengthening our communities through opportunity and empowerment.

Award Amount

$500 Academic Scholarship
(Non-Renewable)

Scholarship Use Funds may be used toward:

  1. Tuition

  2. Books

  3. Academic fees

  4. Room and board

  Awards will be distributed based on:

  1. Number of qualified applicants

  2. Available scholarship funds and donations

  3. Eligibility Requirements

 Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Graduating high school senior OR currently enrolled undergraduate student

  2. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75

  3. Demonstrated financial need

  4. Commitment to leadership and community service

 

Application Requirements

To be considered,

applicants must submit a complete scholarship packet including:

  1. Completed Application Form

  2. Provide all requested personal, academic, and contact information.

  3. Official Transcript

  4. Current sealed high school or college transcript required.

  5. Two Letters of Recommendation

  6. One Academic Reference

Examples:

  • Teacher

  • Counselor

  • Professor

One Community Reference

Examples:

  • Pastor

  • Employer

  • Civic leader

Personal Essay

Submit a 500-word typed essay answering:

“How I plan to use my education to impact my community positively.”

Proof of Enrollment

 

Examples include:

  • Acceptance letter

  • Current enrollment verification

Professional Headshot

Passport-style or professional photo for publication purposes if selected.

Supplemental Narrative Questions

Applicants should also address the following:

  1. Why you believe you deserve the scholarship

  2. How the scholarship will help you achieve your career goals

  3. Your involvement in community, civic, and professional organizations

  4. Your intended degree program and future plans

Submission Guidelines

  • Maximum of 4 pages

  • Minimum font size: 12 pt

Selection & Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be reviewed holistically by the Scholarship Committee.
